ABOUT PJ Howland!
Hi! I’m PJ, and my family loves the homesteading life! It’s something my wife and I have always wanted to do, but we grew up with ZERO HOMESTEADING EXPERIENCE!!!!! We grew up in beautiful southern California, 15 minutes away from the beach. As amazing as that was, we both dreamed of a life closer to land and animals. After getting married and moving to Utah, our family slowly grew. We had become a family of four living in a townhome with a small backyard filled with potted plants.
In 2019 we dipped our feet into homesteading on 1 ¼ acre lot in Utah. In 18 months we were ready to do this for real. So in 2021 we packed everything up and moved to North Carolina to 12 acres and we love every inch of our homestead!
We raise sheep and have big plans for:
• grass-fed lamb
• meat chickens
• laying chickens
• heritage breed pork
• honey
• vegetable garden
• perennial food forest
• and more
I hope you join us on our journey, subscribe and ring the bell if you haven’t yet.

Flat iron steaks are the best bang for your buck imo, the poor man’s filet mignon. And you can air fry from frozen 7-10mins each side rare to well done with a nice outer crisp and slice it up and just add pink salt for a quick simple steak meal.

Okay I HAVE TO SAY THIS. I've been having issues with constipation the last few years whereas before I never had any real issues in my life cause I've been blessed with a pretty healthy digestive system. These last few years though it's really been getting to me and I've tried every single thing in the book to try and finally get rid of this monster. I've been on the fence of trying out the carnivore diet. And to be COMPLETELY HONEST I believe that you sir have motivated me enough to go ahead and finally do it. I believe it could work now. For the stuff you may think shouldn't have been mentioned about the constipation and the hemmoroids. Screw it. Some things just need to be said. Thank you sir and I will be back to share how it's been going for me. Cheers! P.S. I decided to write all this literally right before you asked us to like and subscribe. Lol. I chucked.

My first week I had reduced appetite, which now is fully back and I eat 3, sometimes even 4 meals a day(the fourth is usually a snack). But I do feel hungry. I don't know why though I eat around 2000cal and I am 5'10" 91kgs(around 200 lbs not sure) Looking at the calorie deficit calculators, I should probably eat around 1900 to loose weight. But I am hungryyyyyy 😅

I started last week on Tuesday. I have been generally hungry. But I like the way I feel. Mental fog is all gone. I was having chronic pain in my neck and head it is mostly gone. I struggled with depression in the past now I feel better. Well until I started this diet I thought I really liked meat. I used to joke that while other people have a sweet tooth I have a meat tooth. I am beginning to suspect I was wrong. I am not liking the meat as much. Regardless, beef and eggs for breakfast fill me pretty well. I need to plan better and cook my breakfast and lunch the day before. I need to eat more to get energy to workout.

Hi guys! On week 4 of carnivore and feel great. QUESTION... If i have a special event and want to eat something "bad" (pancakes) what is your advice? Will i get sick? How much REAL harm is there in say a splurge every 2 months?

    • @homesteadingwithPJ
      @homesteadingwithPJ 3 дні тому

I'm just one person, but I think it's okay! I think it is helpful to plan your splurges, because you get to mentally look forward to it, have your splurge, and then know and expect that you'll get back on the bandwagon. I also think adhering to 100% strictness isn't a game that you can play longterm, it's something that you can play in short stints but being 100% strict isn't a sustainable lifestyle. I think the benefits of having your pancakes, and that making it possible for you to stay mostly carnivore long-term will outweigh the negatives of how you'll feel after the pancakes (probably not too great, probably a little bloated). But, I think it's worth it because it'll help in the long-run. I hope this helps!

I am 13 and this has helped me so much! Thank you! Thank you! Thank YOU! I have a relatively good idea already of how my profit was going to turn out and my family runs a small family homestead that doesn't really generate money, but more on meat for us. I want to turn our small flock of 6 ewes, 8 lambs, and 2 rams, into a profit running source of income for me and my family. We aren't farmers before and have only been figuring things out as we go, but I have so many thoughts and ideas of how I can turn my unorganized situation to a great way to make money and spend my time. Even though I am young, I sometimes forget that I still have so much more to go, I am so focused on being successful now that I crowd my head with all these ideas that I just don't know what to do with myself sometimes. After watching this video, you have simply givin me a goal and newfound hope. My dad says sometimes when he really gets to thinking, that work when you can, make your profits when young, so you can do what you want to do when you aren't able to work as you once we and can enjoy those good old golden years.

My cycles are much less painful. My bad thoughts are basically gone, like I used to have really bad, obsessive thoughts. I have not lost much weight on the scale, however, I look much smaller. Its only been 3 months im sure the scale will go down eventually. The main reason I started was for anxiety, menstrual pain, and finally lose the extra fat off my tummy. No matter how much i work out and try to track calories, it refuses to go. Praying carnivore is the key

I am still having a rough time. I am at 5 1/2 months very strict carnivore. Fluctuating weight but my neuropathy in my feet is still screaming and I am having some heart issues with palpitations and low oxygen level in my blood so I don’t know what’s going on. I work out every other day. I’m not overweight I don’t smoke or drink but I had terrible stomach issues so I decided to go carnivore and I love it but I was really hoping for more and better results. Especially the neuropathy in my feet, but that has not changed at all. I have not had carbs nor sugar in 5 1/2 months.

Anyone have advice for getting your blood sugar up when you’re starting out to keep from going hypoglycemic? I’ve been fat my whole life, was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes 4-5 years ago and SUCK at managing my blood sugar. I’ve started having nerve damage in my toes and I refuse to let it get any worse (and my latest bloodwork came back unchanged from last time- too high!) and I started carnivore yesterday and did pretty good until my blood sugar dropped to 103, which it hasn’t been in a long time and had to eat some peanut butter to get it up enough so I didn’t have the shakes. Today I’m trying to stay on top of it to keep it from dropping of spiking, but was looking for any other tips.

Copper is not a problem, in fact it's essential, if offered as a separate element in a free choice mineral cafeteria style. A copper balanced diet prevents parasites and a copper sulphate diluted into water can work as an efficient dewormer. Another colleague here already recommended Pat Coleby's book, it's worth reading it. From the book you'll learn that most veterinary books recommended copper sulphate over chemical drenches up until the 60s, and that the trials that 'forever' tarnished the use of copper (pun intended lol) were done using very toxic pesticides together with copper. The key is to have it free choice and not mixes with other minerals.
